Eintracht Braunschweig just prevented the descent from the 2nd Bundesliga in a drama with excess length. Four days after the 2-0 victory in the first game, the favorite trembled in the relegation second leg against 1. FC Saarbrücken with a 2: 2 (0: 2, 0: 0) after extra time in his own stadium.

The ex-Saarbrücker Fabio di Michele Sanchez, of all things, redeemed Eintracht with its connection goal after a little more than 105 minutes. Rayan Philippe (120th) finally scored to equalize. The guests were 2-0 in front, but had to make the extension after a yellow-red card against Calogero Rizzuto (90.+1). In the final phase, Eintracht keeper Thorben Hoffmann parried several times.

The third division third Saarbrücken had long done too little for a catch-up, but had suddenly took the lead through a penalty of the former Braunschweiger Florian Krüger in the 66th minute. Kai Brünker (83.) had added to the guests. In the end, however, it was not enough for the longed-for second division return after 19 years.
