Eintracht Frankfurt is about to make the first transfer for the coming season. As the “image“ reported, Hrvoje Smolcic (21) from HNK Rijeka will join the SGE in the summer. Accordingly, the central defender passed the medical check in Frankfurt on Tuesday.
As a fee for the Croatian U21 national player, whose contract with the runners-up in the 1.HNL is valid until 2023, the newspaper brings a sum of 2 million euros into play, which can still increase.
Smolcic, who has been team captain at Rijeka since this season, should intercept a possible departure of Evan Ndicka at the Adlerträgern. There have been rumors for a long time about the 22-year-old, who is the most valuable player in the squad with a market value of 28 million euros – in 2021 he was associated with Paris Saint-Germain, Arsenal and AC Milan, among others. His contract with Hessen runs until 2023, which means that Eintracht will probably have their last chance of high transfer income in the summer.

In Frankfurt, Smolcic would be the tenth Croatian in the club’s history and would follow in the footsteps of Ante Rebic (28), for example. A Croatian compatriot is currently in the squad in Kristijan Jakic (24).
