Report: Mainz 05 before the transfer of Hertha BSC captain Marco Richter

Second best scorer 2022/23

Marco Richter led Hertha BSC onto the field as captain on the first three match days of the 2nd Bundesliga, but despite his new role he is considered a candidate for sale. Apparently, the 25-year-old could leave the “old lady” in the near future. According to the “Picture” the right winger is about to switch to FSV Mainz 05.

The negotiations between the clubs have already been completed, the “zero fives” pay a little more than 3 million euros. Richter is due to sign a contract until 2027 and missed Hertha training on Monday – officially due to muscular problems. According to the report, however, the right foot was already on his way to Mainz to complete the medical check on Tuesday.

Richter came to Berlin from FC Augsburg in 2021 for 7.1 million euros. To date he has made 66 appearances for Hertha, and last season he was the second-best scorer behind Dodi Lukébakio with six goals and five assists.

After relegation, the next top performer is likely to leave the capital club, and income will increase to over 20 million euros. After the botched start of the league at Union Berlin (1: 4), Mainz gets another option for the offensive, which can also play on the right flank in the five-man chain. A replacement for Silvan Widmer, who is still missing, is being sought there.
