Report: BVB on Chalobah – 0 games since the Bayern deal fell through

According to “Picture“-Information interested in a transfer from Chelsea professional Trevoh Chalobah. The 24-year-old central defender, who was also involved with FC Bayern until deadline day, missed the previous season with thigh problems – the Munich team decided against a transfer at the time because of the high transfer fee demand. Nevertheless, the 1.92 tall Englishman is said to be on BVB sports director Sebastian Kehl’s wish list.

Borussia Dortmund has three strong options for the center of defense in Mats Hummels, Nico Schlotterbeck and Niklas Süle – but after that the squad becomes rather thin in terms of experience. The fourth central defender available to coach Edin Terzic is 24-year-old Antonios Papadopoulos, who has mainly played for BVB II since 2021 and has appeared six times for the first team.

The club’s management was already aware of these bottlenecks in the summer, but a commitment from Southampton’s Armel Bella-Kotchap failed and so the German international moved to PSV Eindhoven on the last day of the summer transfer window. Bayern were also interested in Bella-Kotchap and also came away empty-handed when it came to defensive reinforcements.

According to the “Bild” newspaper, in January BVB is hoping for an entry from London on loan with an option to buy. Chelsea homegrown Chalobah extended his contract there until 2028 almost a year ago, collected his most minutes in the Blues jersey to date in 2022/23 and made 33 appearances.

On October 18, the struggling club announced that Chalobah, who last played on May 28, had suffered a setback in his recovery. According to reports, the big-spending Chelsea is hoping for a transfer fee of around 30 million euros – a sum that only another Premier League club or a member of the Saudi Pro League is willing to pay.
