All cables on the track at Schiphol have been replaced and extensively tested, says ProRail. According to the rail manager, the tracks were released after the repair work around a quarter past ten tonight and the train traffic can therefore be started.
The NS travel planner shows that the train traffic to and from Schiphol was restarted around half past ten. The trains to and from Schiphol from Utrecht and Amsterdam run again. Since early this morning there were no more trains on that route due to one power outage.
Important cables burned
The power outage was created by a fire along the track at the Oeverlandenweg near Schiphol. It originated this morning around 3.45 am. In the fire are in Total 25 cables destroyedincluding an important 3KV cable that is needed for the power supply of trains.
Cables were also damaged that are needed for directing signals. Fifteen specialists worked this afternoon on the repair work on the track. Rail manager ProRail says he is happy that today it was successful to release the tracks again.
Cause of the fire still unknown
The cause of the fire is still not clear and is being investigated. Yet the police said this afternoon to explicitly take a crime into account. The police say they have not yet arrested anyone in connection with the fire.
The forensic investigation has secured tracks on the site of the fire. They are included in the investigation. It is also examined whether there are camera images available from the environment and whether local residents have seen something suspicious.
Because the fire took place on the first day of the NATO summit, Minister Van Weel (Justice and Security) does not exclude the fact that it is a sabotage campaign.
