René van de Kerkhof: ‘Dramatic what PSV showed against Vitesse’

“I’ve never seen Sangaré play as badly as on Sunday. Man, man, man, actually the whole of PSV played dramatically,” says René van de Kerkhof in the morning program Wakker!. The former winger describes the PSV game against Vitesse as “lifeless and without character’.

According to Van de Kerkhof, the Arnhem team is one of the worst teams in the Eredivisie. “You have to win from that. The result of Ajax-Feyenoord was already known. Then you know that the championship is out of reach. As a group of players you have to have an attitude of: we are going for second place. But almost all of PSV played a bad game. I lacked the will to win.”

Every team sometimes has a bad day, but according to football experts, that happens too often at PSV. René agrees: “It seems as if they can no longer play football as soon as they are on the bus to an away match. With a bit of luck we can still play the Champions League, but if it continues like this it will be the Conference League.”

In situations like this, the trainer is often pointed to? “It is certainly not Ruud van Nistelrooy’s fault. He sends the eleven best players into the field. He can’t help it. The players have to show more intensity. To start in two weeks’ time in the match against NEC.”
