Long -term leader in international hockey René Fasel turned 75 this week. In his last years, Fasel, who has been upset, has moved to Russia.
The Russian State News Site Tass interviewed Faselia on the anniversary. At the same time, the Swiss opened his views on international hockey.
Fasel was asked what he thought about the Swedish Ice Hockey Association boss Anders Larsson fresh opening. The participation of Russian and Belarusian athletes in next winter’s Olympics is still open.
IIHF said he had only closed Russia and Belarus out of their tournaments in 2025-26.
Tass, for his part, told Fasel Larsson had said that Sweden would not boycott tournaments if Russia could participate. TASS apparently referred to the Olympics.
– Larsson is a member of the IIHF Board of Directors. Hope his words would lead to something. I believe that people are finally beginning to understand what is meant when they say that politics and sport should not be confused, Fasel replied.
