Ex-national coach wins titles in Japan

Michael Skibbe stands with Sanfreecce Hiroshima in the Supercup against Japan’s Doublegewinner and prevails. An old acquaintance from the Bundesliga also meets.
Former national coach Michael Skibbe won another title in Japan. With his club Sanfreecce Hiroshima, he now also secured the Supercup after the 2022 league cup. 2: 0 (1-0) Vice master Hiroshima won against Double winner Vissel Kobe on Saturday, won the 32nd edition of the Japanese supercup.
Kobe had to do without some top performers due to injury and could not compete in the best. Hiroshima used the situation early on: Already in the 12th minute, former Bundesliga professional Tolgay Arslan put his team in the lead.
In the 70th minute, Hayato Araki made the decision to make 2-0 with his goal.
For the Japanese first division clubs, the focus is now on the upcoming J1 League season. The league operator starts next Friday with a derby between Gamba Osaka and Cerezo Osaka (11 a.m. CET).
Skibbe, who was a federal coach under DFB team boss Rudi Völler from 2000 to 2004, has been training Hiroshima since 2022. Before that, the 59-year-old has been responsible for Al-A-A-A-Arabia (2020-21), Greece’s national team in recent years (2015 -18) and the Grasshoppers Zurich (2013-15).
