The 1. FC Saarbrücken missed the longed -for promotion to the 2nd Bundesliga. After the relegation secondary at Eintracht Braunschweig, coach Alois Schwartz was disappointed-and expressed significant criticism of the referee.

After the lost relegation and the missed promotion to the 2nd Bundesliga, Saarbrücken’s coach Alois Schwartz echoed himself through referee Tobias Stieler. Specifically, two decisions bothered him in the 2: 2 after extra time in Eintracht Braunschweig: the dismissal for Calogero Rizzuto at the end of the regular playing time (90.+1)-and the long stoppage time in the first half of the extension, in which the Braunschweiger met 1: 2 (105.+2) and thus had an advantage after their 2-0 first leg in Saarbrücken.

“This yellow-red card gets us out of the game again,” said Schwartz. He looked at the scene again: “Giving yellow-red for something like that is bitter for us.”

He was particularly annoyed by the emergence of the Braunschweig hit in the extension. “He shows a minute aftermath and lets 2:30 minutes play,” said Schwartz’s decision. “This is really bitter for us. So little sensitivity, I just find that a bit out of place.”

Despite the frustration, Schwartz expressed recognition from his team: “A great disappointment for us, but also a great pride in the team.” The 1. FC Saarbrücken finally wanted to go back to the 2nd Bundesliga after 19 years – this plan failed again.

Schwartz described the lack of stability throughout the season as a decisive factor: “If we had the consistency in this way, we would have had a different result in the foreplay and then we would now be a second division.”
