Regional league team Rehden shocks favorite Meppen and is in the DFB Cup, NDR-Sport – NDR – Regional

It all came down to penalties as Shamsu Mansaray became cup heroes. The BSV Rehden midfielder scored in the 89th minute to give the outsider a 1-0 (0-0) win.

Confused Meppener could not believe their bankruptcy after the final whistle and sank to the ground disappointed. Around them, the people of Rehden danced across the lawn and celebrated their surprise coup, which was not undeserved. Meppen barely achieved anything offensively in front of the 700 fans who had traveled with them, while Rehden delivered a strong fighting and tactical performance.

In 2013 it was against Bayern

After 2013 and 2014, BSV is in the first round of the DFB Cup for the third time (July 29 to August 1) and can look forward to a guaranteed income of 130,000 euros. Eight years ago, Rehden had even sniffed the second round and was only eliminated on penalties against the then second division club VfR Aalen. The year before, the Lower Saxony club even drew the whole big lot FC Bayern Munich. In the stadium of VfL Osnabrück, BSV pulled out a respectable 5-0 loss against the record champions.

If the regional league team fishes the German champions from Munich or the cup winners (SC Freiburg or RB Leipzig) out of the lottery pot this time, the first round game would not be played until August 30th or 31st, as the Supercup will be played on July 30th.

Rehden’s season isn’t over yet

While the season is now over for Meppen, BSV Rehden still has two games to play in the relegation round of the Regionalliga Nord. Coach Kristian Arambasic’s team is still fighting to stay up. But everything looks like staying in the league. With two games left, BSV Rehden has a four-point lead over the first relegation zone.
