RRome, 3 December. (askanews) – UNHCR and the EU present a street art project in three cities, Rome, Paris and Copenhagen, to celebrate global solidarity with refugees. It was inaugurated in Rome the mural “Nurturing Hope”, “Coltivating hope”, by Alice Pasquini. The work is located in the Tor Marancio neighborhood and depicts a young refugee handing a small plant to her little brother, sitting on a suitcase that once symbolized their home. The mural captures both the reality of exile and the quiet resilience of children seeking safety.

“When they clearly contacted me with the idea of having to represent such an important, so current, and so emotionally strong theme, it immediately seemed like a great responsibility. In reality all my art speaks of emotions and people. – said Alice Pasquini – Even the idea of recreating this intimate scene in which a brother and a sister in my imagination recreate the concept of home through a plant, a suitcase with windows, meant for me that in any case in the end there is the hope that we can start over again, but bringing with its roots.”

The initiative aimed at celebrating European solidarity with refugees around the world is entitled Echoes of Resilience. art to show how EU and UNHCR support helps millions of people forced to flee wars and persecution to find safety. With 117 million people around the world having been forced to flee their homes, the project highlights how the EU-UNHCR partnership is helping displaced families restart their lives.

The works on refugees in Paris and Copenhagen

Created by renowned artists and inspired by the perspectives of refugee communities, the murals explore themes of resilience, dignity and renewal. In Paris, the artist Mahn Kloix transformed the roof and walls of the Ecole Renard, in the 4th arrondissement, in a moving tribute to refugee children’s journey towards education. In the northwest area of ​​Copenhagen, the Resilient Roots mural by artist Peter Skensvedinstead depicts a refugee family rebuilding their lives.
