After almost thirty years, the SGP is again part of the coalition in Waalwijk. Together with the VVD, Samen Waalwijk and CDA, the reformed party presented the new coalition agreement on Tuesday.

The Political Reformed Party was part of the opposition for more than 29 years, but this came to an end after the last municipal elections. The party will now bear responsibility within the mayor and alderman.

The party will announce later who the new alderman and councilors will be on behalf of the SGP. “We see this coalition participation as a special responsibility and a historic step for our department. We hope to be able to do our work in dependence on God’s guidance and with an eye for the well-being of all residents of Waalwijk,” the SGP faction said.

In Catholic Brabant, the reformed SGP only participated in the elections in two places: in Waalwijk and in Altena. In Waalwijk, the SGP received 1,122 votes – 103 fewer than the CDA – both received two of the 31 seats. The largest party was the VVD with 4,809 votes, 9 seats.

Local bond
Two things stand out in the coalition agreement that the SGP put together with the other parties. For example, the parties want to ban fat bikes and no longer give status holders local priority for social housing.

Housing in particular is a top priority in the agreement. The parties want to make it possible for at least 2,500 homes to be built in the coming years. Residents with local ties should have a better chance of owning a house.

In addition, the new coalition wants to take stricter action on the streets. The agreement states that Waalwijk wants to introduce a fat bike ban ‘following the example of Enschede’. The coalition wants to actively enforce this.
