Reduced NS timetable has major consequences for several North Holland routes

The measures taken by the NS to deal with staff shortages have a significant impact on the timetable throughout North Holland. For example, the extra rush hour train between Schagen and Alkmaar will disappear and a train will stop in Purmerend in the evenings and weekends only once an hour.

The sprinter between Hoofddorp and Hoorn, which will visit Schiphol and the Zaanstreek, among other places, will soon only run once an hour in the evenings and at weekends.

Timetable

It is not the first time that the NS has stripped the timetable. Earlier this year, the railway company also took steps to limit train failures as much as possible. The NS is struggling with major staff shortages and is afraid that if there is a new corona wave, there will be major gaps in the occupation.

By cutting the current timetable, NS hopes to take a step towards December, when the definitive timetable for next year will be presented.

More complaints

Traveler organization Rover received 2,750 complaints about overcrowded trains in October, more than thirty percent more than in September. According to Rover, September is a traditionally busy month on the railways.

The organization is also unhappy about the fact that NS is using shorter trains as a result of the shortage of conductors. According to the organization, the NS should choose to let go of the rules about conductors in proportion to the length of the trains.

A spokesman for Rover informs NH Nieuws that he will keep an eye on the situation between Den Helder and Alkmaar in the coming period. “It can get busier on this route during rush hour, but it can also be better than expected.”
