Christian Horner is no longer team leader at Red Bull. After his exit, the Briton in front of the employees – and was visibly moved.
A long -time chapter at Red Bull Racing has ended: team boss Christian Horner surprisingly said goodbye to his post – the decision was obviously completely unexpected for him.
As the British broadcaster Sky reports, the 51-year-old held an emotional farewell speech in front of the employees in the team factory in Milton Keynes on Wednesday. In a cell phone video that was available to the broadcaster, you can see how Horner fights with tears at the end of his speech.
Horner had already been informed about being on Tuesday evening. The next morning he said goodbye personally. “I continue to stay in the company, but the baton is handed over operatively. And of course that was a shock for me,” said Horner in the team seat.
It is unclear whether he will actually still work for Red Bull. According to media reports, a contract termination is currently being negotiated. His current contract was actually still running until 2030.
In his speech, Horner thanked everyone who had accompanied him over the years. “I just want to express my thanks to every single member of the team, which has given so much in the last 20.5 years that I have been here,” said the long -time team boss. It was started from two old buildings to build something that is one of the formula 1 today. The employees reacted with applause.
Horner later also commented on Instagram. “It was an honor for me to be part of this incredible era of motorsport,” he wrote. “I say goodbye to the team that I loved so much.”
The background of the departure is a mixture of internal tensions, persistent sporting crisis and an affair for inappropriate behavior. The impending farewell to series world champion Max Verstappen also played a role in the decision of the Red Bull lead.
