Our country is in the European top for the number of transfers of non-Belgian detainees to their country of origin. Last year the counter stood at 91, a record number. “We want to focus even more on this,” said Minister of Justice Vincent Van Quickenborne (Open Vld). “This way they can serve their sentences in their country of origin and not at the expense of the Belgian taxpayer.”
