Chinese scientists have discovered water in a sample of lunar soil delivered to Earth by the automatic interplanetary station “Chang’e-5”. About it it says in an article in the scientific journal Science Advances.

“We estimate that the lunar soil sample contains 120 ppm of water, mostly from the solar wind,” the scientists said.

China probe “Chang’e-5” docked with the orbital and reentry modules

The Changzheng-5 rocket with the Chang’e-5 spacecraft launched from the Wenchang cosmodrome on November 24. The lander successfully landed on 1 December. At the same time, the probe placed the PRC flag on the moon.

The Chang’e-5 mission was the first in history when an unmanned probe delivered samples to Earth. Thus, the PRC became the first country in the last 44 years to deliver samples from the lunar surface. The probe returned to Earth in early December.
