The video game sector has experienced a boom in recent years, including in Belgium, says Guy Paesschen of the Walloon export agency Awex. The global gaming industry outweighs the film sector and is worth hundreds of billions of dollars, according to Paesschen.
The Game Developers Conference in San Francisco is also an event not to be missed for many Belgian companies. All the big names and global players, ranging from Amazon and Meta to Google and Ubisoft are present. 20 companies from Belgium will participate, including 12 Walloon and 8 Flemish.
Flemish Minister of Media Benjamin Dalle (CD&V) will also visit the major game conference. That visit fits in with a working visit to Silicon Valley. The CD&V minister will take the opportunity to promote the tax shelter system for gaming, a measure that came about at the insistence of the Flemish gaming federation Flega.
