Record number of 13,018 detainees in Belgian prisons: “Situation has never been so disastrous”

The Belgian prisons have a record number of 13,018 detainees. 267 prisoners sleep on the ground. Around 3,400 shorts are on the waiting list due to the shortage of places. And 713 convicts used to leave the prison to make way, which is possible through the system of extended penitentiary leave. The newspapers of Mediahuis today report this.
