PSG-Bayern was the most watched cup match without Italians in the last 4 years. Yet, again on Sky, Jannik against Jodar recorded a higher share, with a more female audience

On Tuesday evening the Champions League semi-final between PSG and Bayern, a poster child for spectacular football with nine goals, was watched on pay TV by an average of 1 million and 133 thousand spectators, with a 5.7% share: a record audience share on Sky for a Champions League match without Italian teams, after the 2022 final between Liverpool and Real Madrid. Yet, the next day, Jannik Sinner attracted a larger television audience at the moment of the match. Not in terms of absolute ratings, because the quarter-final in Madrid against the rising star Jodar was broadcast in the afternoon and not in prime time like football: the average audience in fact stopped at 600 thousand spectators. In terms of share, however, tennis did better: 8% against 6% for PSG-Bayern. Numbers that confirm the level of penetration of the number one in Italian tennis among fans, especially among that segment of loyal subscribers to Sky, the exclusive owner of the TV rights of the tour and therefore able to guarantee a continuous narration of the exploits of the “Fox” on the ATP circuit.

The processing of Auditel data by Studio Frasi offers further interesting insights, as partner Francesco Siliato explains: “Analyzing the audience profiles of the two television events, the ratings of Sinner-Jodar are higher than those of Psg-Bayern in Trentino-Alto Adige, Friuli Venezia Giulia and Sardinia. Furthermore, the female share is more marked: 42.2% for Sinner against 32.8% for the Champions League. Finally, it should be underlined that the lower socio-economic class recorded a higher audience share for the tennis match than for the football match, probably because they were less equipped with 4K televisions, available as an option for the Champions League matches”.
