The neon advertising of the Ooievaar, which originally acted as a sign for the well -known children’s clothing store “De Ooievaar,” has been on the roof of the building since 1951. The logo, designed by Felicien Lacombe in the 1930s, is inextricably linked to the Lacombe family, which the store operated for decades. For them, the restoration is an emotional moment.
“It’s a miracle,” says Monique Lacombe, daughter of the designer. “Although I have been living in Heule for 62 years, my soul is still here. It is wonderful to see the stork again in full glory. ” Her sister Rita, who was born in the building and spent her entire childhood and working life there, is also moved: “It is very pleased to see the stork revive again.”
