Rebirth of a legendary Porsche Design chronograph

Over 40 years after the introduction of the legendary “Military Chronograph”, Porsche Design is paying homage to this iconic design with the Chronograph 1 Utility – Limited Edition. Inspired by the “military chronographs” of the 1970s, which were characterized by reliability, comfort and optimal legibility and were popular with air and naval forces, the new edition combines traditional heritage with the latest technology.

Innovation in materials and design: Titanium carbide sets new standards

The Chronograph 1 Utility – Limited Edition is characterized by the use of titanium carbide, a material developed and patented by Porsche Design that stands for exceptional robustness, scratch resistance and lightness. This material, used for the first time in a watch on the market, emphasizes Porsche’s role as an innovator. The matt black dial offers optimal readability and pays tribute to military chronographs. Historical fonts on the totalizers are reminiscent of the original.

Precision and quality: The Porsche Design chronograph caliber WERK 01.240

The watch is powered by the Porsche Design chronograph caliber WERK 01.240 with COSC certification and flyback function, which seamlessly continues the precision and quality of the previous model. Compliance with the COSC precision specifications is guaranteed by additional tests in the factory.

The flyback function of the chronograph allows starting, stopping and zeroing in one operation, which, in combination with the titanium carbide case, makes it the ideal timekeeper for outdoor, winter sports and racing activities. The “BUND” leather strap, which once ensured a high level of comfort while protecting the wrist in extreme temperatures on the military chronograph, is used again in the utility edition. The dial of the historical model, the military version for the U.S. Air Force flying squadron, was decorated with a tiger’s head as a heraldic animal. Instead, on the dial of the new edition, positioned between 4 and 5 o’clock, there is a graphic of a screaming marmot, colloquially known as “Mankei” in Pinzgau, Austria. As part of the cooperation between Porsche Design and FAT International, the “Mankei” icon refers to the “Mankei” inn, Ferdi Porsche’s location on the Großglockner High Alpine Road, near the FA Porsche studio in Zell am See.

Tradition meets modern details

Other characteristic elements include the “TiC” logo, which refers to titanium carbide, and the use of Super-LumiNova® for optimal readability. The historic Porsche Design logo can be found on the dial and crown, while the Mankei icon and the “Chronograph 1 Utility Edition” lettering are laser engraved on the caseback.

The Chronograph 1 Utility – Limited Edition: A stylish companion for outdoor activities

Included is a slate gray calfskin strap, which is also used in Porsche interiors, as well as a white textile strap, ideal for winter sports.

Pre-orders for the Porsche Design Chronograph 1 Utility – Limited Edition have been possible on the website since October 2023. The watch will be available from January 15, 2024 in Porsche Design Stores and selected specialist shops.
