Rebecca’s 5 favorites: ‘I’ve been ordering the same sandwich here for 15 years.’

This time in our ‘Favorites of’ section, Rebecca (29) shares her five favorite places in Zoetermeer. Rebecca was born and raised in our city, but has been living in Alphen aan den Rijn for a few years now. Yet she still has strong ties with our town: she works here for the municipality!

The White Raven

‘I have been coming to this restaurant with my family for many years. You can eat delicious, the dishes come from the Persian kitchen. When you are here you feel that the owners put a lot of passion and love into their work. Also nice: De Witte Raaf is located in a converted farm, where weddings often take place. So a nice location! This isn’t the type of restaurant I go to every week, but when I eat here it’s the best meal of the year!’

The Balijbos

‘I love to walk in the Balijbos, I’ve been coming here since I was a kid. I often go there with my mother or with my dog Kyra. This area is really great for dog owners. The dog is allowed to run loose on the outside paths. There is also an exercise field, a dog beach and a petting zoo in the Balijbos. Kyra always enjoys meeting other dogs here.’

Queen of Hearts

‘Nothing stays the same on Stadshuisplein: new restaurants and cafes are constantly being opened, with new owners and new concepts. Yet there is one place that has remained the same for years: Queen of Hearts. This eatery has always remained the same since I can remember and it is really a household name in Zoetermeer.”

Rebecca used to like to have a drink on the terrace before going out. “Nowadays I mainly go there for lunch. My lunch tip? The salami sandwich with brie, I’ve been ordering that here for fifteen years. The menu at Queens has also been familiar for years. I remember that once the salad dressing was changed, well that just caused an uproar in Zoetermeer!’

Bentwoud

‘I think the Bentwoud, the part on the edge of the Oosterheem district, is a very nice nature reserve. I have a special connection with it, because as a child I looked at this area from my bedroom window. I often spent the evenings staring outside. The Bentwoud was created in those years, so I really saw the area develop. I think it’s a lovely place for a walk. I always stop on the dike, from there you have the best view of Zoetermeer.’

The market in Rokkeveen

‘What makes me very happy: the Friday market in the Rokkeveen district. When I am in Zoetermeer on a Friday, I always want to go there with my mother. Strolling between the stalls, looking for tasty things… There is just a very nice atmosphere here. We always buy a piece of cheese here, sometimes some fish and then we finish at the animal stall. We get something tasty for the dog there.’
