The Royals give FC Pachuca from Mexico no chance in the final of the previous World Cup. Coach Ancelotti is crowned the most successful Real coach in history.
Real Madrid is the winner of the Fifa Intercontinental Cup, which is being held for the first time. The Spaniards won the final against Mexican representative CF Pachuca 3-0. Kylian Mbappé, Rodrygo and Vinicius junior scored the goals.
With his 15th title win, Carlo Ancelotti was crowned the most successful Real coach of all time.
The Intercontinental Cup is basically what’s left of the once small Club World Cup next summer, which has now been blown up into a mega event: a tournament for the winners of the six continental championship competitions. Real were set for the final.
The newly crowned world footballer Vinicius first prepared Kylian Mbappe’s opening goal (37th) and then finally made everything clear with his converted penalty kick (84th). Rodrygo also scored with a remarkable shot for the favorites (53′).
For the Royals it was the ninth success and the fifth title of this calendar year. The traditional club had previously triumphed against Borussia Dortmund in the Champions League, and Real also secured the Spanish championship as well as the European and Spanish Super Cup.
Pachuca qualified for the final with wins against Botafogo and Al Ahly.
The live ticker to read:
Final whistle: The game is over. And Real Madrid are the title winners.
90th minute: Pachuca cheers. Mena heads in from a cross to make it 1:3. However, he was offside. That’s why the hit doesn’t count.
88th minute: Ancelotti makes two more changes. Vasquez and Bellingham go down. This is where Güler and Asensio come into play. Pachuca is also bringing in fresh staff for the last few minutes.
84th minute: Vinicius junior takes the penalty. Goalkeeper Moreno is still there, but the ball still ends up in the bottom left corner of the goal. This means it is now 3-0 for Real. That is the final decision.
81st minute: Another commotion in the Pachuca penalty area. Vasquez goes down in the penalty area after a foul. His mainstay is removed. That has to be a penalty for Real. The VAR switches on again and the referee now watches the scene from the sidelines. He announces his decision again via the stadium microphone and the penalty.
74th minute: Vinicius junior does magic! After a one-two, the Brazilian finishes from a tight angle. The goalkeeper is still there and the ball ends up going over the goal.
71st minute: That was close! Rondon heads the ball in the penalty area after a great cross. His attempt goes just over the bar.
70th minute: Now Rodrygo can go out too. Veteran star Luka Modric comes into play for him. He could win his 28th title for Real Madrid today.
67th minute: Rondon tries a direct free kick from almost 30 meters. Curtois dives and is able to fend off the ball. That wasn’t safe.
66th minute: Now things will of course be difficult for the Mexicans. Real Madrid is now playing it down quite cleverly.
62nd minute: Ancelotti makes two changes. He brings Diaz into play for goalscorer Mbappé. Ceballos also comes in for Camavinga.
56th minute: The VAR has reported and Rodrygo’s dream goal is being reviewed again. Jude Bellingham was offside right in front of the goalkeeper before the goal. However, he doesn’t actually intervene actively in the scene and doesn’t obstruct the keeper’s view. The referee sees it that way too and announces over the stadium microphone that the hit counts.
53rd minute: Real scores 2-0. Rodrygo gets too much space in the penalty area. He lets two opponents get out and then hits a beautiful and unstoppable shot into the far corner.
51st minute: There is a chance for compensation. Deossa finishes on the edge of the penalty area. His shot is slightly deflected and therefore goes wide of the goal.
46th minute: The teams are back, the sides have changed. The second half is underway.
Half time: Real Madrid are undeservedly leading 1-0 after the first half. However, the favorite initially struggled in the early stages and Pachuca had the first chances. With Mbappé’s goal at the latest, the balance of power changed again.
