Real Madrid star in focus after “rapist” slogan

Jude Bellingham and Real Madrid are fighting for the league title in Spain. But after the win at Getafe FC, the Englishman was not in focus for sporting reasons.

An initially insignificant scene may have repercussions for Jude Bellingham. The Real Madrid midfielder is said to have called opponent Mason Greenwood a “rapist” during his team’s game at Getafe FC (final score 2-0 for Real). Trials against Greenwood for attempted rape and assault ran until early 2023 before the charges were dropped due, among other things, to the withdrawal of witness statements.

The video clip quickly spread online and, according to Spanish media reports, Getafe filed a complaint with the league. According to the newspaper “Marca”, they in turn hired a lip reader who was now supposed to determine without a doubt whether Bellingham had actually called his compatriot “Rapist”. Another assumption is that Bellingham said “Rubbish” (in German in this context: crap/idiocy).

There is still no official statement from a club or a player. The lip reader should now provide information about this. If the “Rapist” variant turns out to be true, the Spanish football association RFEF could ban Bellingham.

Greenwood has been under contract with Getafe FC since the summer of 2023 and is on loan from Manchester United. The young striker was suspended from the “Red Devils” due to the incidents. Greenwood’s friend Harriet Robson posted an Instagram video in January 2022 that showed her with a bleeding wound on her face and several bruises. “To anyone who wants to know what Mason Greenwood is doing to me,” the story also read. At that time, the footballer was released on bail and under conditions a few days later.
