Sergio Ramos will not extend his contract with CF Monterrey, which expires at the end of the year, but he probably hasn’t had enough of professional football yet. After Fabrizio Romano picked up a report from “El Chiringuito TV” at the end of November and wrote that the 39-year-old defender would be leaving the Mexican club, he confirmed the decision after his team’s playoff exit in the semifinals against Toluca.

“Yes, that was my last game here in Mexico,” said Ramos on the “TUDN” broadcaster on the night from Saturday to Sunday. Romano had reported that there could be no question of an end to his career, because Ramos wanted to open a new chapter in his career and start looking for a new club.

The veteran, who won the Champions League four times with Real Madrid, has been without a job since his contract with Sevilla FC ended in the summer of 2024 and joined CF Monterrey at the beginning of February this year. With a market value of 1 million euros, Ramos will soon be one of the most valuable free transfer professionals in his position.

Ramos met two teammates from his time at Sevilla FC in Mexico. In the summer of 2024, the club signed Lucas Ocampos (31) and Óliver Torres (31) from the Andalusians. With Sergio Canales (34), who was under contract with Real Madrid from 2010 to 2012, there is another face familiar to Ramos in the team. In May, Spaniard Domènec Torrent took over from fired coach Martín Demichelis. At the Club World Cup, Monterrey failed in the round of 16 to Borussia Dortmund (1:2) – with Ramos as captain. The 2010 World Cup winner and 2008 and 2012 European Champion played 34 games for the Rayados, in which he scored eight times.
