The future of Luka Modrić has been officially clarified. The 39 -year -old Croatian, who has been playing at Real Madrid for 13 years, will not receive a new contract with the royal in summer. After “Cope” initially wrote about it on Thursday, the player confirmed his departure on his social media channels in the afternoon. At the beginning of the week, the “Marca” had reported that Xabi Alonso, whose commitment was considered a coaching successor by Carlo Ancelotti, had spoken out for the whereabouts of the former world footballer for another season.
“The moment has come. The moment I never wanted to come, but that’s how football is, and in life everything has a beginning and an end … On Saturday I will play my last game in Santiago Bernabéu,” wrote Modrić on his Instagram channel. “I came in 2012 with the dream of wearing the best team in the world, and with the ambition to afford, but I couldn’t imagine what came. For Real Madrid, my life as a footballer and as a person changed. I am proud to be part of the most successful era of the best club in history.”
Modrić has long been one of the players with most missions in the history of the royal. With Real, he won the Champions League six times, four times the Spanish championship and twice the cup competition. His current contract runs by the end of June, so he will still contest the club World Cup. According to reports, the midfielder is said to have been ready for renewed salary in order to stay with Real and would also have resigned himself to the reservist role.
