Lennart Karl is currently one of FC Bayern’s best professionals and has a steep development curve behind him. Real Madrid once rejected the young offensive man.
Lennart Karl has played 21 games for FC Bayern’s professionals so far and has scored six goals in his twelve Bundesliga games this season. Coach Vincent Kompany praised his protégé: “It’s a nice development. But there has to be more to come. There will be more to come.” Potential that Real Madrid once apparently didn’t see.

In the podcast “And now to sport” from the “Süddeutsche Zeitung”, journalist Sebastian Leisgang revealed an interesting detail about the Munich native. Leisgang comes from near Karl’s hometown of Aschaffenburg and knows his family well. He said that Karl had completed a trial training session with the Royals seven and a half years ago.
The now 17-year-old was even at the Estadio Santiago Bernabéu at the time. “He auditioned for Real Madrid when he was 10, and there were training camps at a regional level, one in Großkrotzenburg in the Aschaffenburg region,” explained Leisgang. “From there he progressed to the next round, which was in Memmingen. He prevailed again and then he was invited to Real Madrid and was allowed to audition at the venerable Bernabéu.”
But after that it was over. However, Karl’s father was happy about it and the family doesn’t regret it either. Karl has been part of the FC Bayern professional team since June and was previously active for the U19 and U17 teams as well as in the Munich youth team.
