In the ranks of FC Bayern, David Alaba once became one of the most coveted footballers in the world, shone in Munich as a left -back, in the central midfield or the middle of the defense before moving on to Real Madrid in 2021. After a strong first season, the bad luck was on Alaba’s heels – and still pursues it in a frightening way.

If the Austrian only added smaller injuries to the Austrian in 2021/22, a real odyssey began in January 2023: Alaba missed 19 competitive games for Real or the ÖFB, fought back in December and suffered a cruciate ligament tear in December.

But that’s not all: When Alaba finally registered in the game in February 2025, a meniscus tear followed and a new break.

Even during the current club World Cup, the now 33-year-old has not yet been operational, apparently, since he got an injury again at work on his comeback.

As the Madrilenes announced on Friday, Alaba laboratories on a muscle injury in his left calf. The club did not announce a downtime, but hardly anyone believes in a very quick return.

Alaba before the end of Real Madrid?

Also sporty, the left foot now hardly plays a role anymore. After the many setbacks, the game practice and possibly also trust in your own body are missing. It is not to be expected that Real Alaba’s contract extends again beyond the summer of 2026.

One finger: Real had signed the 20-year-old Dean Huijsen for Alaba’s position for 60 million euros, the Spaniard, born in Amsterdam, played through in the three group games of the Spanish record champions at the club World Cup. With Antonio Rüdiger, Eder Militao or Rául Asencio, other stars have long since ranked.
