Real Betis: Sokratis should replace Bartra – Haglund syndrome in ex-BVB colleague

Negotiations failed?

Former Dortmund and Bremen player Sokratis Papastathopoulos (35) is reportedly about to sign for Real Betis. The Greek defender has been without a club since the summer and is now needed in Seville due to the loss of another ex-BVB professional.

On Monday, the Spaniards announced the loss of Marc Bartra (32), who returned to the Verdiblancos in the summer. According to the club, the former Borussia player, who left BVB for Sevilla in 2018 for 10 million euros, suffered an injury to the Achilles tendon in his right leg as a result of Haglund syndrome, a deformity of the heel bone. Next week the central defender will undergo surgery with an uncertain downtime. It is assumed that it will take several months. Sokratis can step into the breach immediately as a short-term solution.

Update 9:51 p.m.: Loud “Relevo” reporter Matteo Moretto The talks between Sokratis and Real Betis have now failed. Also “Diary of Seville“ reports that there will probably not be a transfer.

The Spanish newspaper “Mundo Deportivo” recently named Sokratis as a candidate at Real Betis. On Wednesday we heard from transfer reporter Fabrizio Romano that talks about a commitment were ongoing. A decision should be made quickly. The Andalusians could probably get their act together on Wednesday or Thursday.

Sokratis, who played alongside Bartra in 39 games at BVB, was most recently under contract with Olympiakos Piraeus for two and a half seasons. He left the Bundesliga shortly after Bartra in the summer of 2018 after two years at Werder Bremen and five at BVB. The veteran then played for Arsenal FC for two and a half years. Real Betis would be his ninth club.
