Scored for Betis Sevilla

When Joaquín made his first game for Real Betis Sevilla professionals in 2000, some of his current team-mates weren’t even born. Nevertheless, the offensive man still can’t let it go. As of Thursday evening, the Spaniard is even the oldest goalscorer in the history of the Europa League.

The veteran was exactly 41 years, one month and 25 days old when he scored the goal in the 3-2 win against Bulgarian club Ludogorets Razgrad to make it 2-0. And how he did it. At the left corner of the penalty area, he took the ball with his sole, put it in place briefly – and flicked it wonderfully into the far corner. In the evening, Betis Sevilla jokingly tweeted a photo of Joaquín: “This child has a great future.” The player himself also took his success with humor. “Every time something happens, I set a record because there aren’t many players at that age,” Joaquín said on Movistar (via “Marca”).

The oldest goalscorer in the Europa League, which replaced the UEFA Cup in 2009/10, was Daniel Berg Hestad (Molde FK), who proved his accuracy in 2015 at the age of 40 years, 3 months and 6 days. With Miroslav Klose, a German world champion from 2014 is also in the top 10.
