Michael Jordan’s red number 23 jersey from the 1998 NBA Finals made auction history. PDO

A basketball legend Michael Jordan’s so called The Last Dance -the auction price of the jersey crushed the initial expectations and made history.

Originally, the price for Jordan’s jersey was planned to be between three and five million dollars. In the end, this price estimate was nowhere near the correct selling price.

In the Sotheby’s auction, the jersey ended up fetching just over 10 million dollars. No sports memorabilia has ever fetched such a steep price. Diego Maradona God’s hand jersey from the 1986 World Cup was the most expensive piece of memorabilia before Jordan’s jersey at $9.28 million.

The authentic jersey was worn by Jordan in Game 1 of the 1998 NBA Finals against the Utah Jazz. The finals ended with the championship celebration of the Chicago Bulls represented by Jordan. That’s when Jordan won the last NBA championship of his career and the Finals Most Valuable Player award.

– The season itself is his “magnum opus” as an athlete. It’s a testament to him as a champion and a competitor. Jordan’s Finals jerseys are in short supply. The shirts of the 1998 finals are undoubtedly the most sought-after, Sotheby’s auctioneer Brahm Wacher said in the release.

The basketball legend once again decided to end his playing career after the 1998 finals, although he returned to the court a few years later.

Kobe Bryant’s the 1996–97 rookie jersey sold in May 2021 for $3.69 million, the most valuable NBA jersey prior to Jordan’s auction.
