Welcome! AZ and FC Volendam started the second half of the season this afternoon. At home, the Alkmaarders were too strong for the Volendammers 1-0; Sven Mijnans scored the only goal. You can read everything about the match and the reactions afterwards in this live blog.

Final score: AZ – FC Volendam: 1-0

We’re closing the live blog for now. Tomorrow we will be back with another North Holland get-together. Telstar and Ajax then play against each other. Kick-off takes place in Velsen-Zuid at 2.30 pm. See you tomorrow!

In extremis, Van Oevelen, who came along, gets another chance to head the ball, but the goalkeeper does not hit the ball properly. AZ won 1-0 for Volendam, but it was anything but convincing.

The young substitute has a chance on the edge of the box, but his shot is too weak. This might have been the opportunity for Volendam.

Is there another stunt for Volendam? The away team is looking to attack. And where AZ hopes for support from its own audience, it is turned down.

Three fresh forces for AZ in the final phase. Jizz Hornkamp will make his debut and Seiya Maikuma his first minutes of the season. Ro-Zangelo Daal will also join the team.

Isak Jensen, Mateo Chavez and Troy Parrott leave the field.

Reason: Ayoub Oufkir shows up. The substitute takes the ball and goes for his own success. His effort goes far wrong, but the AZ crowd is happy with the energy that Oufkir puts into this action.

In an unfortunate duel between Kees Smit and Gibson Yah, the Volendam midfielder goes to the ground. In the first half he already had problems with his left knee and now again. Yah cannot continue and is replaced by Joel Ideho.

Sven Mijnans could have already scored three goals. After a close-range effort by Parrott, the AZ captain gets an excellent opportunity on the rebound. Mijnans shoots the ball uncontrollably far over the Volendam goal.

A change at Volendam. Henk Veerman does not return in the second half, he is replaced by Robert Mühren.

AZ starts the second half with the same eleven.

The AZ home crowd is not happy with the game of their team and makes itself heard.

The first half hour belonged to AZ; Mijnans gave the home team an early lead. FC Volendam participated more in the last fifteen minutes, although this did not result in any great opportunities. We go to half time with 1-0.

Brrrrr… a bit of trembling in AZ’s defense. Volendam has a stronger phase and the home team has to ‘go backwards’.

We are waiting for a big opportunity for Volendam. What else does the first half have to offer us?

Finally something is happening in Alkmaar again. Mateo Chaves has not given a good cross for the first time this afternoon and now Alexandre Penetra runs into it. The Portuguese defender aims the ball just wide.

A minute later, Weslley Patati lays the ball off to Sven Mijnans. The midfielder thinks he can score his second, but Mawouna Amevor clears the ball with his chest.

Mees de Wit gets away well there. The defender heads the ball back to his goalkeeper Owusu-Oduro, but misjudges the fast Aurelio Oehlers.

The Volendam winger wants to hit the ball over the AZ goalkeeper, but Owusu-Oduro gets there in time and prevents the Volendam equalizer. The public in Alkmaar escapes unscathed.

The ball is not near when Gibson Yah goes to the ground. The midfielder seems to be suffering from his left knee. He is further cared for along the field and then returns.

The wing defender intercepts the ball in midfield and gets it back into Volendam’s sixteen. However, De Wit completely mows over the ball and kills this chance.

A misunderstanding in the AZ defense between Penetra and Owusu-Oduro. Henk Veerman almost manages to take advantage, but Wouter Goes removes the ball just in time. We also see FC Volendam becoming dangerous in the opening phase.

Sven Mijnans is the goalscorer! The AZ captain scored in two instances: 1-0. But Mijnans is free. Volendam’s defense can count on that.

Mijnans was also accurate in the last match of 2025.

After a rush by Kees Smit, the ball goes to Troy Parrott via Isak Jensen. We see the Irish striker for the first time, but his effort is an easy ball for Volendam goalkeeper Kayne van Oevelen.

Henk Veerman gets the ball rolling in Alkmaar. The Volendam striker will play his 200th match in the Premier League today.

The Alkmaarders did not end the year successfully. The last five games in the Premier League were not won. For the last winning match we have to go back to November 2, 2025: Sparta was defeated 0-1 at Het Kasteel in Rotterdam.

You can say that AZ was ready for a break. The Alkmaarders played 58 matches last year. This made 2025 the busiest football year in club history for AZ.

Well, in an hour and a half. In the run-up to today it was exciting: will the Saturday matches in the Premier League continue or not? For example, earlier this week it was decided that the Friday matches in the first division would be cancelled.

The KNVB reported earlier today that today’s matches in the Premier League will continue as usual. So let’s play football!

AZ and FC Volendam were able to catch their breath from the first half of the Premier League season for just under three weeks. Today they are back: at 4:30 PM the North Holland clubs will compete against each other.
