RB Leipzig | Werner with a slight all-clear for Flick

After winning the cup with RB Leipzig, the ailing striker Timo Werner gave the all-clear for the upcoming international matches with the German national soccer team.

As of now, he is assuming that he will not have to cancel the last international matches of the World Cup season, Werner said after the 2-0 (0-0) win in the final against Eintracht Frankfurt on pay TV broadcaster Sky: “As soon as it is reasonably painless , I should be able to play again.”

Werner, who twisted his ankle in the final training session, fell on the floor a few times during the game and was limped off after an hour. National coach Hansi Flick also registered this with concern in the stands of the Berlin Olympic Stadium. “He still has a few days left. Our doctors will get information from those in Leipzig and see what’s going on. Of course I hope he’ll be there.”

Werner definitely wants to be there for international matches

Germany will play Ukraine in their 1,000th international match on June 12 in Bremen. This will be followed by further test matches in Warsaw against Poland (June 16) and in Gelsenkirchen against Colombia (June 20).

Werner really wants to be there – and maybe winning the cup can help him. “It hurts, but you have to go through with it. The celebration will perhaps alleviate it a bit,” said the attacker with a smile. But he also admitted: “It didn’t look all right. I was hoping for a bit of adrenaline. It wasn’t always great, but I hope I was able to help the team in some way.” Werner said on ZDF that he twisted his ankle in training. He already has a slight irritation in his foot, said the striker. He “threw in a few tablets so that it worked somehow. After 60 minutes, the foot was so thick that it couldn’t work anymore. But that doesn’t matter.”
