The SC Freiburg footballers suffered their second defeat in a row and missed the connection to the top of the table. The previous surprise team in the women’s Bundesliga lost 2:4 (0:2) on matchday 8 against RB Leipzig from the lower table region.

Emilia Asgeirsdottir (11th), Marlene Müller (32nd), Annabel Schasching (73rd) and Lisa Baum (85th) scored for RB Leipzig. Svenja Fölmli (77th) and Luca Birkholz (88th) for the SC. Just like in the last away game in Nuremberg, Freiburg were unable to turn around a 0-2 halftime deficit. The SC fell back to sixth place and is already nine points behind leaders Bayern Munich. Meanwhile, Leipzig moved into a secure midfield.

The home team appeared powerful at the start, but were caught cold by the guests’ first corner. Iceland’s national player Asgeirsdottir used a lay-up to give the visitors the lead. A little later, Müller also appeared cold-blooded: the midfielder scored from 24 meters.

After the break, the ex-Freiburg player Schasching shocked the powerful SC with the third goal. Fölmli ensured Freiburg’s connection just seconds after being substituted on. Things remained turbulent in the final phase, but Freiburg could no longer come close.
