RB Leipzig postpones sports director presentation

Bundesliga club RB Leipzig postpones the presentation of a new sports director.

As CEO Oliver Mintzlaff announced on the club’s website, the DFB Cup winner will not present the sporting director in July as announced, but only after the end of the current transfer period.

“In the weeks after the cup final, we rejected the candidate with whom we agreed for a variety of reasons. One reason for this was that, surprisingly, another door opened for us at the same time, which means an extremely big opportunity for us “said the club boss.

Since Markus Krösche left in April 2021 and moved to Eintracht Frankfurt, RB Leipzig has been without a sports director. The club wants to complete the current transfer period in the current constellation. Mintzlaff emphasized that the Austrian Xaver Schlager from VfL Wolfsburg had recently been signed and that the contracts of Marcel Halstenberg and Kevin Kampl and in particular Christopher Nkunku had been extended.

“The fact that we were able to retain such a fantastic, sought-after and exceptional player like Christo is an exclamation mark for our club, nationally and internationally,” he said. Mintzlaff announced that he would sell players without naming names “to get the right squad size”.

At the same time, Mintzlaff confirmed that talks about extending the contract with coach Domenico Tedesco beyond summer 2023 should only take place in winter. “It was more than mutual as we both have the same understanding that we don’t need to be pressured,” he said.
