RB Leipzig loses its next top star

The sparrows have been whistling it from the rooftops for days anyway, now it’s probably getting concrete: After top scorer Christopher Nkunku recently left the Bundesliga soccer club RB Leipzig for Chelsea FC, the second star player of the Red Bulls is apparently following the call of the English Premier League.

At least this is the message reported by the well-known transfer expert Fabrizio Romano on Friday evening. According to the Italian journalist, Liverpool FC is actually serious about Dominik Szoboszlai, who has been said to be the player of choice for German team manager Jürgen Klopp for a long time.

Previously, consistent media reports had said Liverpool were ready to pay the €70m release clause in Szoboszlai’s contract, which would expire at the end of June.

In the past few days, the Reds have pushed the accelerator hard to actually get the 22-year-old transferred. There was no official confirmation in the evening, however.

Is RB Leipzig now also losing Gvardiol?

Only a short time before, the Red Bulls and the Reds from Liverpool had confirmed that with the Portuguese youngster Fabio Carvalho, a player would go the opposite way and be loaned out by the Saxons for a year.

Dominik Szoboszlai moved from RB Salzburg to Leipzig two years ago and managed to qualify for the Champions League again under head coach Marco Rose. In Liverpool, only the Europa League is waiting for the Hungarian international.

As transfer expert Romano also reported, the obligatory sports medical examination and the signing of the contract in Liverpool should take place in a timely manner.

Central defender Josko Gvardiol could also leave the Saxons as the third star player in the squad. The Croatian defender is being courted fiercely by treble winners Manchester City.
