RB Leipzig’s technical director Mario Gomez has indirectly confirmed the loan of national striker Timo Werner to English first division club Tottenham Hotspur.
“It’s a win-win for everyone,” said the 38-year-old on “Sport1”: “Germany benefits from it. We benefit from it because we get a player going. He will play regularly, that’s what Tottenham is giving us conveyed.”
Werner traveled with RB to the training camp in Marbella, Spain, but the 27-year-old attacker only trained individually there. He was also missing from the squad for the friendly against FC St. Gallen (1-0).
“The club and players are in negotiations with another club,” Leipzig had previously announced.
After the South Korean Heung-min Son was sent off for the Asian Cup, the Londoners need to take action in attack. Werner also knows the Premier League from his time at Chelsea. Spurs want to take the striker on loan until the end of the season.
Werner himself wants to recommend himself for the home European Championships next summer. He wasn’t able to do that recently in Leipzig. Werner was no longer part of the regular lineup for the DFB Cup winners. He only started twice in the Bundesliga and not once in the Champions League.
