Rayo Vallecano has parted ways with coach Francisco Rodríguez with immediate effect. The LaLiga club announced this on Tuesday evening. The Madrilenians presented their successor the next day: Iñigo Pérez returns. After retiring as an active player, the 36-year-old was assistant coach at Rayo under Andoni Iraola in the 2022/23 season.

After two wins at the start of the season, the club from Madrid’s Vallecas district had steadily declined over the course of the season so far and slipped to 14th place. Since the end of October, the team from the Spanish capital has only achieved one win from 14 games. Rodríguez had only signed at the beginning of the new championship round after promotion coach Iraola, under whom Rayo managed to stay in the upper house twice by finishing twelfth in the table, had moved to AFC Bournemouth.
