The docu-fiction Raul Gardini by Francesco Micciché, interpreted by Fabrizio Bentivoglio traces the personal and professional history of the Emilian entrepreneur since launch of the Moor of Venice (March 11, 1990) to that fateful a gunshot of July 23, 1993. The death of Raul Gardini: July 23, 1993

The July 23, 1993 Gardini he wakes up early in his Milanese home in piazza Belgioioso and decides to shoot himself with his Walther PPK. The entrepreneur, involved in the Enimont maxi-tangentis deeply shaken by the suicide of Gabriel Cagliari (three days earlier), former president of ENI and friend, also involved in the Enimont affair. Gardini leaves the family a note with the inscription: «Thank you». Next to it was found a newspaper with the headline: «Bribes, Garofano accuses Gardini!». Perhaps that news was the coup de grace: Garofano worked for Gardini and in that way unloaded all the responsibilities on him.

But was it suicide? Several things don’t add up Gardini’s death. Starting with the gun, which has changed places several times. Were the blows to the head two or one? The official version says one, but there is no agreement on this. And why weren’t traces of gunpowder found on Gardini’s hands? There are many questions surrounding his death.

Fabrizio Bentivoglio: from Gardini to the return of Monterossi

«The first time I was offered the role of Gardini dates back to about ten years ago, for a film which, as often happens, was never made again, leaving me with a certain regret – he said Fabrizio Bentivoglio – when I got the call from Francesco Miccichè who was talking to me about this project, I didn’t have any trouble hearing it right away from me too: Raul gushed almost despite me, autonomously, as if he too was in a certain hurry to get out and free me from that promise made to him more than ten years ago».
