It is one of the most embarrassing things Paul de Leeuw has ever done on television: the last series of Ranking the Stars. The shelf life of this show had already passed, but the last edition really hit everything. We saw the presenter gasping for breath among C-stars such as Sjorleone (known for Temptation Island-like television). Painful.

Punished

Paul now says, in The Telegraphthat he feels that his career has entered a new phase, in which some programs such as Ranking the Stars no longer suit him.

He says: “I defended the restart of Ranking the Stars. But the public punished us. Then you also have to admit your defeat. So there is no need for that program at the moment.”

Valuable TV

Now Paul wants to focus on valuable TV, such as the MAX series ‘A forgettable journey’, about people with dementia. “Yes, I am looking with Omroep MAX to see if we can make some sort of follow-up to this. We will soon be making test recordings in a hospital in Rotterdam.”

But, he concludes: “I don’t want to become a Foster Sister Bloedwijn, so that from now on I will only make those kinds of social-empathetic programs. I do realize that I have entered a different phase of my career: I have reached my peak.”
