Alcaraz returns King after two years. Jannik has been at the top for 455 days, but he can already aim to take it back by the end of the year

After 455 days and 65 weeks, the new ATP ranking will no longer see Jannik Sinner number one. The defeat in the final of the US Open in blue not only cost the failure to confirm the title in New York, but also the loss of the world throne. The new king is Carlos Alcaraz, who becomes master of the ranking for the third time in his career, exactly two years at the last time.

comeback

The Spaniard rises to 11540 points, with a margin of 760 points on the Italian. The recovery of the Murciano phenomenon in the transfer to the increased cement was frightening. After Wimbledon, in July, the South Tyrolean had an advantage of 3430 points: within not even two months, Carlitos earned him 4090, also considering those lost by Jannik compared to 2024 (350 in Cincinnati, 700 in Flushing Meadows). Predivable that Alcaraz would go better than last year, where he had not done practically points between the two 1000 North American and the US Open, but it is certain that the victory of Cincinnati and New York surprised not a little, given the strength of his direct opponent on the concrete.

And now?

Now Carlos is also in a favorable position for the continuation of the season. From here at the end of the year, in fact, Alcaraz will have to defend only 950 points, while Sinner will have to face 2880. If the Spaniard is maintained on the levels of the US Open, for the blue it will be almost impossible to return to the head of the ranking from here to the end of the year. Of course, since he did not play three months for the suspension agreed with Wada, Jannik could be fresher to participate in multiple tournaments than done in the end of last year, given that in 2024 he participated (in addition to the Six Kings Slam, the very rich Arab performance) only in Beijing (final) and Shanghai (Vittoria). For example, Jannik could play the 1000 of Bercy or even one of the 500 European indoors, Vienna or Basel, to attack the Spaniard, who, however, could do the same. Seeing Sinner still in the lead the ranking before 2026, therefore, will be difficult, but knowing the blue, not impossible.
