Cercle Bruges has found a new trainer. However, it is not the successful Bernd Storck in the relegation relegation as a “firefighter”, but another German. Onur Cinel, assistant by Ralf Rangnick at the Austrian national team and most recently under Thomas Letsch at RB Salzburg.
Born in Essen as well as former Schalke young coaches and assistant under Huub Stevens or Christian Gross, after the almost disaster of the green-blacks in the Belgian league, the “sporting vision” is now to be heard, as can be heard from the club. That means: “to promote players and bring a distinctive and dynamic football to the square.” Cinel said: “From the very first moment I felt connected to Cercle, both with the people and the sporting vision. When I visited the stadium and the training facilities, I knew immediately that I wanted to be here. I look forward to directing my first training on Monday and getting to know the players and the staff.”
Storck had been brought back from the West Flanders in the season finale to prevent the descent from the first division. From autumn 2019, the coach from Herne had already carried a little more than a half season at Cercle, this year his commitment only took two games. Both relegation parts against Patro Eisden Maasmechelen were won, Cercle remained in the upper house and yet you do not go into the future.
With the relegation, Storck prevented the second descent within one season. For Cercle, he had left his previous club KV Kortrijk, where in the last ten games, despite the decent balance she was not able to bring the team over the line. The playoffs landed just behind Cercle. There, Cinel is now taking over for his second head coach position in the men’s area after 2023/24 at the Salzburg training club FC Liefering.
