Rally champion Giulia Maroni plunged into a ravine and died

Maroni was a well-known name in Italian motorsport circles. He participated several times in the legendary Dakar rally and also won the Italian off-road rally championship.

Bologna’s local newspaper Il Resto del Carlino gave details of the carter’s tragic death. The accident happened on a foggy Sunday, when Maroni and his spouse went for a run with the dog.

In the middle of the run, the woman slipped and fell into a ravine that was 50 meters deep. He slammed into the rock in front of his partner’s eyes.

An attempt was made to save Maroni by taking him by helicopter to a hospital in Bologna. However, the injuries were so severe that he died.

Mayor of the municipality of Castel Guelfo Claudio Franceschi commented on the sad news, overwhelmed.

– I spoke with Giulia’s husband on the phone. He is desperate and cannot find peace in the midst of it all. He had just watched the tragedy helplessly, Franceschi said.

The couple had lived together for three and a half years.
