That would be a real personnel hammer: Austria’s national coach Ralf Rangnick is traded at a club from the 2nd Bundesliga – but not for the post as head coach.

As “Bild” and Austrian media reported, citing ÖFB associations, serious conversations between Ralf Rangnick and Hertha BSC run.

The Berliners had recently made contact with the 66-year-old, it is said. There was a meeting in Vienna. Rangnick therefore has a fundamental interest in hiring the old lady.

Hertha BSC is actually looking for a sports manager who is supposed to return to the Bundesliga. For this post, Samir Arabi (most recently Arminia Bielefeld) and the Sven Mislintat fired in February as a technical director at Borussia Dortmund are also on the list of candidates.

It is said whether Rangnick actually takes over the position as managing director in the event of a move to Berlin or a “Mastermind” role that is more in the background.

Again and again there have been rumors about a return of Germany of the “football professor” in recent months. In the spring, Rangnick spoke to BVB, who ultimately committed Niko Kovac as a new coach.

FC Bayern also dredged to Ralf Rangnick

FC Bayern Rangnick also wanted to win as a trainer in spring 2024. At the last moment, however, he decided against the offer from Munich and for the opportunity to lead Austria to the European Championship in Germany and the 2026 World Cup in Canada, the USA and Mexico.

But: Between Rangnick and parts of the Austrian Association, it has been crazy for months. Rangnick is also no longer inviolable due to the missed National League ascent. Hertha BSC is now striking?

Rangnick had turned its back on Germany in the summer of 2020. In 2021 he initially stated as managing director at Lok Moscow, after only a few months as an interim coach at Manchester United. He has been looking after the ÖFB selection since summer 2022.
