Rains and Zellerfeld bring 3D technology to the Paris catwalk

The Danish outerwear label Rains gets support from Germany. Together with the 3D shoe experts from Zellerfeld, the brand presented the “Puffer Boot” at the Paris Men’s Fashion Week.

The experimental shoe was designed by Rains and produced by Zellerfeld, sources in Denmark said last week. Visually, the distinctive shape and unusual silhouette of the dark gray model is reminiscent of stone reliefs, but it is the technology behind the boat that makes it unique.

For the collaboration, Zellerfeld developed a special 3D-printed buffer element for shoes that consists of 90 percent air. This technology is intended to introduce a new dimension of possibilities for shoes from the Hamburg company. The previous advantages of 3D shoe production – fully recyclable mono-material, no seams or bonded components and no need for human construction – still remain.

The outerwear label is venturing into a new category of goods with the shoe, although it is currently not clear whether the “puffer boot” will actually be in stores in autumn/winter 2023. Nonetheless, the collaboration signals a glimpse into the future for both brands, combining functional design with cutting-edge technology, according to the release.
