Rainbow flag hoisted at the TH Lübeck

“We are happy to be part of the CSD Lübeck! The Technical University of Lübeck is committed to the goal of being a friendly, cosmopolitan and inclusive place. It’s about an open culture, but it’s also about developing structurally,” says President Dr. Muriel Helbig. “Diversity helps to think more creatively, do better research and learn more. We all benefit from the diversity of the students and employees! This is another reason why people should not have to hide their personalities at the Technical University of Lübeck. We stand by our responsibility to promote good dealings with one another.”

Christian Till, Chairman of the CSD Lübeck eV, hoists the rainbow flag together with Muriel Helbig: “We are happy to be guests here today and to be able to take part almost fully in various CSD activities again. Unfortunately, the Corona pandemic has spawned something that we thought had disappeared. Homophobia, transphobia, hatred of queer people has spread again. The Lesbian and Gay Association in Germany has described an increase in hate crimes against LGBTIQ from doubling in the last year. We have to counteract this and queer visibility is an important tool here!

Transparent procedures for dealing with discrimination, low-threshold access to confidential advice, the use of gender-sensitive language, the establishment of all-gender toilets – just a few of the measures taken to do justice to the social diversity at the Lübeck University of Applied Sciences. Muriel Helbig makes it clear: “Are we perfect? Not for a long time! But we want to show both internally and externally: Diversity is welcome! We are ready to change and evolve.”
