Home win for the 1. FC Cologne: On Saturday the billy goats defeated 1. FSV Mainz 05 2-1 in the sold-out Rheinenergiestadion. After falling behind in the first half (0-1), Ragnar Ache scored in the 57th and 86th minutes. The 27-year-old ended the negative streak for coach Lukas Kwasniok’s team. Most recently, Cologne had gone eight games without a win.
After Mainz’s opening goal from Stefan Bell in the 29th minute, Ache scored the equalizer with a header in the 57th minute. Just a little later he had the opening goal on his feet, but missed the goal by centimeters. In the 86th minute, Ache did better again – and scored again with his head.
With the win against Mainz, 1. FC Köln is now in tenth place in the table with 20 points, followed by Borussia Mönchengladbach in eleventh place (also 20 points). Mainz is in 17th place in the table with 12 points.
