In the French Open (Roland Garros), the second grand slam tennis tournament of the season, 5th seeded men’s Rafael Nadal defeated 9th seeded Felix Auger-Aliassime 3-2 to reach the quarterfinals.


Auger-Aliassime, who played in the first 4th round match at Roland Garros, and Nadal, who had 13 championships, faced off in the men’s singles fight on the 8th day of the tournament held in the capital, Paris.


Playing one of the most difficult matches of his French Open career, 35-year-old Nadal made it to the last 8 with sets of 3-6, 6-3, 6-2, 3-6 and 6-3 after 4 hours and 21 minutes. Nadal will face last year’s champion Novak Djokovic in the quarterfinals.


3rd seeded Alexander Zverev in men also became a quarter-finalist by defeating world number 131 Bernabe Zapata 3-0 (7-6, 7-5, 6-3).


In the women’s 4th round match, 2018 finalist Sloane Stephens, in the 64th place of the classification, passed the 23rd seeded Jil Teichmann with a score of 2-0 (6-2, 6-0).
