Radio host Jere Jääskeläinen remembers his most epic Radio Gala: The lost pole and the police ride

Radio City hosts Samuel Nyman and Jere Jääskeläinen recall the wild Radio Gala evening.

The radio gala was celebrated in traditional fashion on Friday, March 31, at the Helsinki Messukeskus.

The morning program of the Radio City channel is hosted by Jere Jääskeläinen and Samuel Nyman were excited to remember the galas of previous years on the red carpet.

– The most epic Radio Gala memory – it was fun last year when we won the Creative Act of the Year award and went on stage. Managing director Sami Tenkanen (Bauer Media) shouted to the stage that “what are you doing there?”. He didn’t know that we had actually come up with that idea and implemented it. He thought we had gone there just to wing it, even though we really deserved it, Jääskeläinen says.

The award ended up on City’s morning table.

– In the morning, we communicated where the prize is, Jääskeläinen reveals.

– It actually drowned that award, because as I recall, maybe we had to order a new award. It took all the joy out of it, Nyman continues.

Jääskeläinen says that there were other memories from the same gala, even if they are not quite bright anymore.

– I woke up… I was sitting on the side of the road in Punavuori. A gentleman came knocking to say, “From Morje, where are you going?”, Jääskeläinen says.

The radio host said he was going home to Töölö.

– He said that “We have an office next door, I can drop you off”. So he was a policeman. Thrown home and everything is fine, Jääskeläinen praises the authorities.

Radio gala regular visitor Nyman says that sometimes the gala has been organized in The Circus nightclub.

– Those who have been there know that it is a really small place. When you squeeze in 600 party guests, it’s a tight space to be in, says Nyman.

He is happy that the gala has progressed to the point that “it will be held in a bigger and nicer space”.
