Once again, a violent fall overshadowed the Poland tour. On the third stage with start and finish in Walbrzych, a small group with the entire Paul Lapeira from France fell into a ditch a good 22 kilometers before the finish line.
The jury then neutralized the race for 15 minutes. Lapeira finished with great deficit, but the times were not taken for the overall ranking.
In addition to Lapeira, the Polish veteran Rafal Majka and the Italian Antonio Tiberi, who are also well placed in the overall ranking, were also affected by the fall. Both were able to continue and reached the goal in the main field.
The Briton Ben Turner won the stage.
Bad falls in the past
In the past, several bad falls had overshadowed the tour. The Belgian talent Bjorg Lambrecht died in 2019 after a fall against a concrete construction.
A year later, the Schlimme Crash caused horror in the finish sprint of the first stage when Dutch cyclist Dylan Groenwegen had pushed his compatriot Fabio Jakobsen into a barrier at high speed.
Jakobsen was in the artificial coma in the meantime, lost almost all of the teeth and had to be operated on several times. Groenewegen was blocked for nine months.
